RTS Meter Switch-Off: Important Update

Published on 2nd July 2025

You may have already heard from your energy supplier, but if not, there’s important information you need to know about the Radio Teleswitch (RTS) switch-off.

The technology that supports RTS electricity meters was due to be switched off completely on 30 June 2025. However, the switch-off will now happen gradually in phases from Monday 30 June, rather than all at once.

This means your RTS meter could stop working at any time over the next few weeks or months, which could lead to:

  • No heating or hot water
  • Higher energy bills
  • Issues with your energy tariff or switching providers

What to do now:

  • Check if you have an RTS meter – look for a ‘Radio Teleswitch’ label or check if you’re on a tariff like Economy 7 or Economy 10.
  • Contact your energy supplier as soon as possible – arrange a smart meter upgrade or discuss your options. This will help avoid unexpected issues.

Even though the switch-off is happening gradually, it’s really important to act now so your home stays warm and your energy supply isn’t affected.

Know someone with an RTS meter? Help them take action and contact their energy supplier – especially if they may be vulnerable.
