Latest Developments
Over the last few years the Berwickshire Housing Association has built many new homes. And in the years to come we intend to build many more. Some of our more recent developments include:
- Gunsgreen Hill in Eyemouth – A development of 18 family houses for 5 and 6 persons, which was completed in August 2005. The development includes a children’s play area and the first family home in Europe to be powered by a fuel cell.
- Wellfield in Swinton – Two family homes designed to be energy efficient. This development won a Scottish Design Award and featured in the RIBA Journal.
- Erskine Road and The Glebe in Chirnside – A development of 19 houses which were completed in June 2006. The development comprises of 8 family houses and barrier free bungalows for rent, 4 houses for sale as part of the Rural Home Ownership Grants programme and 7 houses developed by our subsidiary "berwickshirelimited" for sale. The Director of Planning at Scottish Borders Council, has said "this as a ‘beacon’ project for replication elsewhere".
- Todlaw, Supported Housing Project in Duns – Communities Scotland gave project approval for this housing development which will replace the Marchmont care home.
We have also recently, with approval from Communities Scotland, aquired land at Acredale in Eyemouth and Berrywell in Duns. And are currently in negotiations to make further site acquisitions.
With the help of Communities Scotland funding we have completed a feasibility study on our Duns headquarters. The study identified a preferred option for remodelling our offices into a Business Centre of Excellence.
